Restaurant Franchise Dashboard Revamp

Context

Franchisees of this Nashville hot chicken restaurant chain in the US have access to a franchise portal that contains various marketing, operational, and training resources they need for running their restaurant.

The Brief

Revamp the franchise portal dashboard to make it good looking and user-friendly, making all resources easily accessible.

My Approach

  1. Gather feedback from existing users to define their needs and pain points with the existing dashboard
  2. Run a UX heuristic evaluation on the existing dashboard to identify the current flaws and opportunities
  3. Define the most important resources and actions that our personas need
  4. Define and design the informational hierarchy of the navigation menu and dashboard
  5. Ideate possible design options
  6. Test the designs to choose the best one, then refine it

The Result

BEFORE

  • No informational hierarchy
  • No real design nor structure
  • Header taking too much space
  • Commercial nav menu is irrelevant here
  • Titles are inadequate and wrong
  • Just shows an ugly feed of individual resources with no thumbs
  • No search functionality
  • Not user-friendly nor aesthetic
  • Visuals unclear
  • No resources are easily findable
  • Redundant promo image

AFTER

  • Optimized header space
  • Replaced the nav menu with one tailored for franchisees, with proper informational hierarchy
  • Grouped all resources under relevant groups in their respective category pages
  • Added a search bar to easily find resources
  • Designed various dashboard sections based on proper informational hierarchy and user needs
  • Added proper intuitive descriptive titles to each section
  • Added shortcuts to the most important resource pages
  • Added a calendar of marketing events, which is important for franchisees
  • Added an aesthetic image gallery to beautify the page
  • Added thumbnails to the press articles to make them look better
  • Removed unnecessary clutter

Feedback

The franchisees loved the new dashboard, mentioning that it was easy to use and looked good. The client was also happy with the result.
